Have you guys heard of ? It's server software you can install on any box and it's designed so that non-technical people can their own . I've been using it for a while and it's pretty awesome. Each file you open is in it's own containerized instance and are by default.

@switchingsocial You may want to check this out and add it to your list if your think it's advanced enough. 😃️

@kris @switchingsocial is a whole OS designed for I believe. Whereas can be installed on any existing system and is not a itself.

@revkellyn @switchingsocial

You need debian 9 or a raspberry with linux to install it. But this project seems very interesting. I think when I will time I could try to test it.

@kris @switchingsocial I actually have Sandstorm installed on my Linux Mint 18.3 box at home and it works just fine. 😀️

@revkellyn @switchingsocial

I try to install it on my destop computer and

The downloaded package seems to be more than a month old. Please verify that
your computer's clock is correct and try again. It could also be that an
attacker is trying to trick you into installing an old version. Please contact if the problem persists.

Huh, that's weird. I never had that issue. I do wish they made a Snap package or something to make installing easier but I didn't have any issues installing with their script.

@revkellyn @switchingsocial

I will try again later. For that you need time. And I will try to install it on real server not on desktop

@revkellyn @switchingsocial *Tries to not make a Darude Sandstorm joke*

@fredmbarros @switchingsocial No idea. Sandstorm is the 2nd personal server software I've tried. I can say that it seems to be more secure and faster than due to the containerization and web apps with lower system requirements. Of course, + isn't as powerful as NextCloud + but it gets the job done for those that don't need anything fancy and doesn't have a super powerful PC.

@revkellyn @switchingsocial @UnclearFuture this is neat! would be interested in somebody comparing/contrasting it to yunohost

@revkellyn @switchingsocial glad to see this brought up, I thought it was only an Ubuntu thing.

@revkellyn @switchingsocial Ah yes, the good old, "Spend money you don't have to buy this new shiny thing"

@maverynthia @switchingsocial Yeah, I agree that's dumb to have to buy new hardware to use new software. Blame Capitalism, it ruins everything. 😐

@revkellyn @switchingsocial Well in this case since it's FOSS, I blame FOSS for requiring it. It's supposed to be combating this and it's.... not. :<

Yes it's true. FOSS is not the end all solution to this problem. Free Software and Free Hardware must work together with Free Culture and other movements to make computing better and more accessible to all.
